The second full-length offering from Annelies Monsere is another painfully intimate collection of works, recalling the reverent, hushed intonations of Christina Carter in its whispered, intensely quiet passages. In fact, even though this is a richer, more heavily arranged album than we've previously heard from Monsere, there are plenty of times when the mics are turned up so far to pick up her vocal that the background noise in the room around her is overpowering: the beautiful piano and vocal vignette 'Can't' is a good example of this. Overall however, this slowcore songstress sounds like she's starting to emerge from the shadows a little, and certainly the songs - however minimal their arrangements may be - are instantly ingratiating.
