VINCENT OLIVER
vincent oliver - Vincent Oliver EP
Don't be alarmed when this EP drops through your mailbox - although it's housed in a heavyweight 12" LP sleeve, it is in fact a 3" cd. Peculiar huh? Well that's the idea - Lo Recordings have started an offshoot label, cunningly named LoAF (Lo Alternative Frequencies) and their idea is to release a series of 3" cd eps packaged up with some rather spiffy art. As for the music, well, shoegazer is the word that springs to mind as the My Bloody Valentine-lite thick waves of guitar distortion instantly hit you as the EP starts. Before too long there's glockenspiel, flutes and synthesizer and a wall of distorted but insanely beautiful sound comparable to Slowdive's Alison or the finest moments of Ulrich Schnauss. A fabulous start for a strange series, recommended.
