major lazer - Guns Don't Kill People... Lazers Do
You can't really predict Mad Decent's movements nowadays, you've just got to sit tight and wait for the next colourful hybrid of world wide styles to pop out of Diplo's bag. The latest project is a huge collaborative effort from Diplo & Switch plus a horde of collaborators ranging from Santigold to Mr Vegas, Turbulence to Jah Dan, T.O.K to the Vybz Kartel plus a whole slew of others. Diplo & Switch have long been two of the hottest producers in the game, between them doing much to shape the towering career of M.I.A and developing their own peerless dance movement to seemingly take in every musical subculture from all four corners of the globe. Major Lazer is without doubt the most partified work from either producer yet, taking in elements of ragga/dancehall wrapped up in multicoloured elements of urban beat structures. It's a purely hedonistic affair and is without doubt the most upfront party record you'll hear this year, and just as you start to think it's all going way too cheesy for its own good the whole thing gets pulled back by the undeniably headcrushing production style of two masters at the absolute peak of their game. Wickid, and wild.
