sirconical - Waving At Planes
Now available at a campaign price. There's a disparaging belief amongst certain Londoners that you can deduce how far away you are from the capital by how many people look up when a plane flies over. As to what they'd think about waving at planes, you can only assume they'd believe it constituted a descent into Wickerman territory... The much-anticipated debut LP from the (re-emergent) Twisted Nerve stalwart Sirconical (aka Gareth Malinson) has been an office favourite for quite some time, a hugely charming and thoroughly disingenuous affair that takes shimmering blocks of electronic building material to construct deceptively simple compositions that range from the playful ('Joulouville') through to the epic ('Gone') and the downright unsettling ('Rose'). Closing with the DJ Woody/John Stammers hook-up of 'Gioco' (a breathless break-led scramble), Malinson has produced an album that is just a joy to listen to, a collage of styles and licks borrowed from the Black Dog at one end, Via old Skool hop hop and ending up at a heavenly soundtrack-heavy catharsis. Wonderful listening.
