christopher tignor - Core Memory Unwound
Christopher Tignor of Slow Six releases Core Memory Unwound as his debut album under his own name, and he's certainly stepping out of the shadows in style. The composer and software designer has made a contemporary classical album that might be mentioned in the same breath as records such as Peter Broderick's Float or Johann Johannsson's Englaborn. It's an instantly bright and accessible record that masks its depths beneath crowd-pleasing harmonies and a delicate interplay between string instruments, piano and computer processing. 'Last Thought At Night' is bare, elegant and utterly haunting - a disarming opener that lulls you into the markedly more adventurous digital processes of 'Last Nights On eagle Street', which scoops up string flourishes and throws them across the stereo field in a chaotic, ear-pleasing scramble. Fans of Rachel's, Balmorhea and Max Richter will find this one hard to put down - highly recommended.
