virus syndicate - The Work Related Illness
Now available on cd. Based around a caps and hoody lairy-tale, 'The Work Related Illness' certainly has a narrative but don't worry about it being a clumsy device that'll get in the way of the tunes; it doesn't. Made up of 3 MC's and 1 DJ, Virus Syndicate's trump card is their producer Mark One whose music effortlessly shifts from the truly apocalyptic (the opening 'Slow Down') through to dusted, bleached beats and lazy scratching ('Get Money'). On top of the storming production are the choleric vocals that flip viscously from laugh-out loud funny to acute pathos in the blink of an eye, with lines like "I got more flavours than a McFlurry" rendered all the more sharp thanks to the undiluted "Gunchester" accents bouncing throughout. With every track a highlight, when 'The Work Related Illness' orders you to "wake up and smell the coffee, don't chew on my name like treacle toffee...", I strongly suggest you take heed!
