sun ra - Nidhamu / Dark Myth Equation Visitation
Combining the two LPs Nidhamu and Dark Myth Equation Visitation with the Horizon album would complete Sun-Ra's Egypt trilogy, as it is Artyard have supplied the former two on this disc. Nidhamu in particular is an avant-garde epiphany full of wild, pitch-shifting synth experiments and proto-Star Wars sound effects, it's quite a shock to the system. 'Discipline 11' and the title track alone are worth the price of admission, blending together head-spinning jazzed-up electronics and adventurous sound sculpting. This sounds way ahead of its 1971 origins. Following on immediately, Dark Myth Visitation Equation might be better known to some as Sun Ra In Egypt Vol.1 or alternatively, Nature's God. It's an album based in part on a Cairo TV broadcast, and the general tone of the record tends to eschew electronics in favour of the Arkestra's more conventional cosmic shuffle. Finishing off the album is the highly surreal 'Why Go To The Moon?', Sun Ra's equivalent of a three-minute pop song, drawing on a weird gospel feel and the usual interplanetary subject matter.
