kid606 - Die Soundboy Die
Noisy glitchcore and IDM veteran Kid606 brings his first album since his 2006 effort 'Pretty Girls Make Raves' with a reconfigured booty hardcore sound on 'Die Soundboy Die'. The title track makes his intentions fully well known on an uptempo electro-jacker with warping bass sounding like UK breaks stalwart Cutlass Supreme. 'Raving cain' trips on the same vibes, with a U.S rave friendly smasher with happy hardcore samples which has become a major feature of his recent livesets. 606 flirts with Industrialised hiphop style dubstep on 'Loose Noose' and 'You Can't Stop A Stepper', and leaves a big surrpise in the form of 'Bat Manners' one of the set's two reflective compositions, returning to the blissfully fried electronica that won him so many fans in the first place. 'Umbilical Bullets' is probably the album's most successful and forward thinking fusion, with ragga patterns battling it out with swarms of stinging synths and tribal chants making it sound like it's just been lopped straight out of a Rupture DJ set. The closer 'Death Is Pain Permanently Leaving The Body' is the other non-dancefloor track, and again finds the Kid of a refined and haunted disposition, with blue jazz notes mingling with claustrophobic bass and ghoulish synths. This is defintiely one for the ravers.
