milosh - III
Toronto's Michael Milosh earned his stripes via two warmly received albums for Plug Research, and this latest effort (his first for !K7) finds him in great form. Aided by the mixing talents of Telefon Tel Aviv's Josh Eustis, Milosh assembles an electronic patchwork of digital beat fragments and soulful synthetic arrangements, always managing to put the song first and foremost on his agenda, despite the intricate, tricksy programming. Milosh's silky, double-tracked voice seems to melt into the electronics, and consequently the marriage of human and mechanised sound is a very natural one, sounding especially grand on the likes of 'Another Day' or 'The World'. It's refreshing to hear a songwriter whose relationship with electronic music doesn't merely defer to folktronica-style acoustic guitar embellishments; instead, Milosh embraces technology in all its modernity and still makes it sound soulful and like a perfectly natural companion for his writing.
