the boats - Saturation, Humm & Hiss
More frayed loveliness from The Boats, this time pressed up in an edition of 200 copies on the gorgeously bijou 'Our Small Ideas' imprint - and another one of those sought after pressings that always seem to disappear in a couple of days. The 5 tracks here are just sublime, including the affected acoustic guitar and late night tinkering of "On The Level", a track that slowly rolls into its own pace, developing melodic hooks out of clipped fragments and easing into a gradual 4/4 shuffle that's quietly euphoric and almost out of joint with its shimmering surroundings."Harry stop it, please" opens with a padded dub reverberation aided by aged acoustic instruments and shimmering keys - the sort of thing that the Remote Viewer have made such a name for themselves with and that never fails to completely draw us in - it's just completely lovely. Aus features on a remix of 'Little Song At Little Time", while "Italics Mine" quite possibly steals the show with its gentle chiming cascade and interwoven found sounds - an ageless classic from this ever brilliant band. Highly Recommended.
