christina kubisch - On Air
Originally an installation taking up the medieval town of Gargonza in Tuscany, On Air was a part of Christina Kubisch's series of sound art pieces concerned with electromagnetic induction, as conducted through specially modified headphones worn by the listener. Participants would then walk around Kubisch's environment picking up on the various signals hanging in the air. This CD is a virtual tour of that experience, complete with an interactive component featuring bonus sounds, a 15 minute video, plus photos and documentation. The music on the audio disc is really something though - an essential piece of listening material for anyone interested in contemporary sound art. Kubisch might not have had the technology she'd have access to today, but the end results are nonetheless absolutely revelatory. Very highly recommended
