best available technology / ond ton - Split
**Housed in colour J-card with insert** Sweden and Portland, Oregon's BAT & TON kick off a crucial 2nd batch of Opal Tapes with two sides of mind-smudging electronic abstractions reducing shards of house, drone and darker ambient to an uncanny agenda. Best Available Technology aka BAT takes the A-side, opening with a lo-fi, squinted take on classic Maurizio or Pole before dissolving into salty analog crackles and sinking through Actress-like decimations to a wheezing, impressionistic acid house blur. The emphasis is all on metastable texture and structure, conducted with a spectral sensuality. Much the same can be said for OND TON, whose side opens with something approximating a ferric-faded Sunn 0))) doing slow house before extruding your ears through strains of slung techno that veer from sounding like Kassem Mosse's darkest dreams to celestial synth peaks and glassy dreamhouse dimensions. This is really very strong - Tipped!
