Striking debut release by London's Midnight Davis, landing on the discerning Five Easy Pieces imprint. 'Aftershocks' is much more melancholic than anything previously on the label, channelling the ghosts of British indie, pop, and rave into dubbed-out and dystopian electronic scapes. The likes of James Blake, Cloud Boat and Holy Other are all apt comparisons for this sound, in as much that they express that unique bedroom spirit, but Midnight really stakes out his own take on that aesthetic with 'Aftershocks', from the dank and isolated '90s Trip-Hop gloom of 'Letting It Flow' to the lush, dark 'n slow rave vibes of 'Medicine', and the deserted dub futurist space of 'Buried'. Recommended!
