tobias rapp - Lost and Sound: Berlin, Techno and the Easyjet Set
So, hands up who hasn't been for a weekend raving in Berlin? If you've got one hand meekly hovering in the air, you should be urged to check Tobias Rapp's celebrated book. Rapp documents and dissects the phenomena of Berlin's appeal to the world's techno cognoscenti i.e Hawtin, Hell etc, and those foreign hordes connected to the city by budget airlines like the big orange and white one. Of course, this covers the rise of über-club Berghain and the success of Watergate and Tresor, together with their allure to folks hooked on anecdotal stories of what happened on nights of abandonment in darkened corners. OK, so we've not actually had time to read it, but since it's publication last year Rapp has been appointed music editor of Germany's best-selling magazine, Der Speigel, and 'Lost And Sound' has been hailed as one of the most essential tomes on modern techno culture of recent times, do you need any more persuasion?
